New-Build Gurdwara
A gurdwara meaning “door to the guru” is a place of assembly and worship for Sikhs. People from Sikh faith with respect refer to the gurdwara as Gurdwara Sahib. As with all gurdwaras there is a langar hall, where people can eat free vegetarian food served by volunteers.
The project provides 1,650 m² of space including community halls, worship space and kitchens.
The carved stonework for the building was commissioned by A21 directly from traditional workshops in India. A team of skilled stonemasons in India carved the pieces and then proceeded to install the stonework features on the front elevation in the UK. Two pilasters, which frame the main entrance, were adorned with five motifs representing both the Punjab and Redbridge.
